TRIPS & TRASPORTATION
Trips & Transportation
From Friday night games to weekend competitions and exciting out-of-town exhibitions, the Mighty Marching Pirates spend a lot of time on the road. This guide will help parents and students understand what’s expected and how to prepare.
LOCAL TRAVEL (Football Games, Competitions)
All students are required to ride the bus to and from all official band events unless approved in advance by the Director.
Types of Events:
- Away football games
- Saturday marching competitions
General Expectations:
- Students must arrive prior to call time
- Parents/guardians may not take their student home early unless previously arranged in writing with the Director
- Band members must remain with the group for the entire event
SPECIAL EVENTS & TRIPS
Throughout the year, students may be invited to attend non-performing reward trips (like Universal Studios), as well as overnight or exhibition trips.
Important Notes:
- Students must be in good financial standing to attend
- Those who quit one ensemble but remain in another are not eligible for non-performing trips
- Written permission and full documentation must be submitted to Mr. Odom before departure
BUS PROCEDURES
To ensure a smooth and safe travel experience, the following procedures are enforced for all bus rides:
Before Departure:
- Arrive early, dressed and ready by call time
- Percussion & trailer crew should arrive 15–30 minutes early to assist with loading
- Students should eat before arrival unless otherwise instructed
On the Bus:
- Chaperones ride and supervise each bus
- Assigned seating may be used
- Respectful behavior is expected at all times
Return Trips:
- Approximate return times are posted via the BAND App
- Parents must be on time for pick-up — supervision ends 30 minutes after return
- Students are required to help unload equipment and uniforms before leaving
PERMISSIONS & FORMS
All students must have travel documentation on file before attending any off-campus event:
- Please see "Forms" Page
Missing forms = No travel.
Forms are submitted once per year and can be turned in to Mr. Odom or emailed to fbhsbandparents@gmail.com
NOTES FOR PARENTS
- Spectator parking is often separate from band parking—plan ahead
- Bring cash for admission to competitions
- Label everything your student takes
- Be prepared for long days, lots of walking, and weather shifts
- Bleacher seat cushions are a worthy investment!
